It is an open secret that life is purely about no conflict; no conquest! However, many would want to lick the product of a bee: honey, but would not want to have a feel of its sting. Does this not amount to chasing shadows? Yes of course!
Take for example, the excitement seen on the face of the average Believer when reminded, that we are more than conquerors. He would almost appear to be walking in the moon. To a large extent however, it is yet to dawn on us that to be accorded such honour, one must conquer something that conquered something. What have you conquered?
This attitude of having not conquered but would want to be honoured is too visible to be ignored. It would best suit the words of Peter Tosh: “Everybody wants to go up to heaven, but none of them wants to die”. He sure makes sense! Nothing is easy in life. Moreso, easy come; easy go, they say. It makes sense to add that even the Lover of the soul of man never promised him easy life. Instead in His Word, God assures of possibilities through Him: “With God all things are possible” (Matthew 19:26).
No one can be decorated with the rank of a field Marshall without such, going to the battle field, fighting and winning? As with every war that there are battles to fight, so is it in the war of life. Homes are battle fronts! Even as businesses, jobs, careers, dreams and what have you, are not left out.
The various battles fought in each front do not deter or take away those that would raise their ugly heads in the others. One can however be emboldened by the triumph over one each time another springs up. In other words, cultivating the attitude of saying; the same way I was able to come out of the other one, this one won’t be an exception. Sure, the victory of yesterday, gives the courage to fight again today. This was David’s winning clue (1Samuel 17:34-37).
Let it be reiterated that life is indeed a journey and never a destination. In the journey in question, many things happen. Good and bad alike after all, the Almighty never promised safe journey. What God in His Omniscience promises is safe arrival.
Until one gets to one’s destination, the going process continues. It is sad to note that many have alighted at various bus stops of life without, the desire to get to their avowed destinations. Except for strong and unavoidable reasons, no one buys a ticket for a journey to a specific destination and resolves to stop at a place of transit. Who does that! No sane person. You must therefore not stop at the bus stop of job loss, ill health, hatred, bitterness and what have you! It is a shame that children of God who, ought to know better allow such to be their fate. It hurts to see many at such positions accuse God of abandonment.
To be forewarned is sure to be forearmed! Our LORD Jesus says in His Word that in the world, you will have tribulations (John 16:33). Are we no longer in the world? Believers are Spirit filled, heaven bound but we still live in a world where many things are bound to take place. It is very wrong not to face life in its real form but to prefer, to live in illusions as many children of God do in our days.
Life in itself is an institute of learning wherein various subjects are taught and learnt. It pays no student or pupil not to learn no matter how cruel a teacher might seem or how difficult a lesson or subject is. I personally distanced myself from mathematics because of my then teacher in secondary school. Somewhere in life, I was denied a great opportunity because of non-mathematical knowledge. Who felt the pain at the end of the day was me. My teacher did not lose anything because I was not the only student in his class. He did his job then but I failed to act well my part and reaped its result thereof.
What have you learned so far about the lessons of life? No matter how painful they might seem, it is for your good. The Scripture says all things work out together for good unto them who love the LORD (Romans 8:28). Except you do not love the LORD; if not, that situation would surely witness a turn around.
Put yourself together. Another chapter is about opening up in your life. Go back therefore to your Trainer. The LORD your God is He! David said of Him: “He trains my hand for war and my fingers for battle” (Psalm 144:1). That is Him; the Ancient of Days. He knows the end from the beginning. Before you got to where you are right now, He already knew it having known you while you, were yet in your mother’s womb (Psalm 139).
Bob Gass wrote in one of his daily devotions saying: “I don’t care how bad your past may have been, your future is worth believing in and fighting for”. Wake up and fight. What you may have lost is only a battle or some battles. The war is still on. It cannot be over until God says so. He promises to blow the final whistle only after you have been declared the winner.
Therefore forget the past and press on towards a future which appears very beautiful. Ophrah Winfrey said: “Each time I look at the future, it is so bright that it burns my eyes”. You must understand that every event of your life has been programmed to bring you to where God is taking you. As such, keep going! See no stumbling blocks instead turn them into stepping stones for you, are only few steps away from your desired height if you faint not.
